Watercolor on 180g watercolor paper, 21x30cm

This watercolor painting is a remake of a digital painting I did way back in 2006 (you can see it here in my scraps).
I really liked that concept, and I wanted to create something in line with my current skills.

I was on the edge whether to paint it digitally or traditionally, in the end I opted for watercolor because it goes well with the fairytale-like atmosphere of the scene.

You can see progress photos of this painting and read about it on my blog.

Regoc by nelchee
Regoc

Regoč the giant and the fairy Kosjenka are popular characters from a story by the most famous Croatian fairytale writer, Ivana Brlić Mažuranić. Her "Tales From Long Ago", originally published in 1916, still inspire children and adults to this day.

The illustration portrays the ancient, abandoned city of Legen where Regoč lives in the moment when Kosjenka stumbles there.

Regoč's clothing is partly inspired by traditional attire of Slavic tribes.

Winter by nelchee
Winter
Media: Watercolor, Adobe Photoshop & Wacom Intuos3

I wanted to send a greeting card to my friends and business associates this year, but I didn't have an fitting artworks to use. Then I remembered I had this idea that dates back to December last year and decided to use it. (That's why I always say that you should note all your ideas in sketchbooks).

A note on my process: the original was first painted in watercolor on 18x24cm 300gsm cold press watercolor paper. Then I took the scan into Photoshop and painted over the original to add more contrast and soften some transitions. I also added textures from my other artworks to the background to give it an icy feel.

I quite like how this turned out, and I will probably complete the entire "seasons" series in the same manner to get the best out of both (traditional and digital) worlds.

Happy holidays, y'all! :)

Month Of Fairies - 30 day art challenge by nelchee
Month Of Fairies - 30 day art challenge
For the entire month of November I've been drawing a fairy a day and posting it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #MonthOfFairies.
It coincided with the "Art Every Day Month" challenge, which I totally didn't plan, but it was a nice coincidence.

Here is an overview of all 30 sketches & digital pieces I did.
Most of them are done in traditional techniques (watercolor, ballpoint pen, ink, colored pencils, gouache, pastels, paper cutting), and a few pieces are digital.

A larger view of a couple of works is available here:

Personal photography, watercolor, Adobe Photoshop + digital painting with Wacom Intuos3

Another work from my November "Month Of Fairies" challenge. I got the idea months before, and I took this opportunity to finally create it.

Metamorphosis is a recurring theme in my work.

I've been through a lot of growing pains on my own in the past year, especially in regards to starting my own business and shifting things around how I want to live.
