During the war in Croatia 303 children were murdered, 74 died in minefields, 1.280 were wounded, 315 were permanently disabled. 4.455 children lost one parent, 131 lost both, and 900 still don't know what happened to their parents.
Of 185 thousand refugees (counting children only), 11.951 still didn't get back to their homes.

These are not just numbers. They're people.

But there's more.

Every year about 20 people in Croatia dies, and more gets wounded/disabled because of landmines. There are 51 thousand landmines left in mindfields across Croatia. Government estimates these will be cleared by 2010.
But someone has to do this.
Our pyrotechnicians' monthly salary in 1996 was about 1.000€, and got smaller every year because our government "has no money". At the same time, politician's monthly salary is estimated over 2.000€.
