The main reason I did this painting was that I needed a new avatar. I used the old one "Duality" for a couple of years, and I felt it doesn't suit me anymore... so here's something that currently suits me It's symbolic, as most of my work is.
Adobe Photoshop CS3, Wacom intuos3 tablet, 10 hours of work, personal references.
First of all, I'd like to say that this picture overall is very good, I really like it Its very original and I like seeing that in artwork. Knowing that alot of people are caught up in mainstream styles and what is popular, alot of work can end up looking similair to someone elses. So this very good it presents a new idea, something fresh. I really like the anatomy of the face, it is done very well. It looks properly proportioned, and nothing that is misplaced stands out. The paint is properly placed on top of the face, giving it shape and depth. I also like the feathers, the technique you used to make them look like that is very convincing. The shading is very nice and shows lots of contast, especially between the foreground and the background. I like the shading of the hair, I think its quite accurate and the tones on the face are really well done, i really like that. I also like how you used lots of colors in the skin to make it look more fleshy and real. I think the bones/teeth on the necklace could use more tone though, they look a little flat. The texture of the bones/teeth is good, but needs some more darker tones and depth. Also the lips show great texure. I like the detail of the leaves in the foreground. Everything is smooth and well constructed. This is a really great piece. Keep up the great work!
This is really good! I love the general design of it and the anatomy looks spot on. My first thoughts for critique were the paint, which are brilliant and done so they look 'on' the skin rather than part of it, but I also feel they're a little too textured in some places in comparison to the softness of the skin and so stand out a little much, particularly around the lips which have a particularly soft style to them. My other critique is for the hair, mostly at the edges - it's painted wonderfully and looks realistic, but I again think it may be a little soft and a little 'perfect', hair has a lot of loose strands regardless of the style its in, so maybe add a bit of roughness to it to add texture and depth, though obviously not too much as it will detract from the face, which I'm assuming was intended as the focal point for this lastly, be careful with opacities - like the cord of the necklace at the nape of her neck, her skin shows through and I'd have assumed it would be an opache cord. Over all, very nice indeed!
